Vulcanus draws on geological formations, defined by its recessed, crater-like form. The concave geometry frames the light source at its center, allowing the light to emerge from depth rather than radiate outward. This creates a warm, grounded, and atmospheric glow.

The mineral, textured surface gives Vulcanus a strong sculptural presence. Its expression is raw and archaic, referencing natural processes rather than decorative forms. Light and material remain closely connected, emphasizing depth, shadow, and surface.

Made from a dense hemp-fiber substrate, Vulcanus gains both weight and tactile intensity. Despite its substantial volume, the lamp remains part of a fully bio-based material cycle. During growth, the plant material binds CO₂, resulting in a negative carbon balance of –6.5 kg, significantly lower than comparable mineral-based lighting objects.
